
When you're building in a remote, wooded setting like this, the roof isn't just about looks - it has to perform. Wind, heavy snow loads, moisture, debris off the trees. A roof out here takes a beating, and it needs to be built with that in mind from day one.
For the main roof on this new build, we installed a 24-gauge mechanical seam metal roof in Carbon. The 24-gauge steel is thicker and more rigid than the standard 26-gauge you'll find on a lot of residential jobs. That extra weight matters - it holds up better under impact, resists oil-canning, and gives the whole roof a cleaner, more solid appearance. The Carbon color ties in perfectly with the natural wood siding and the surrounding landscape.
The garage section called for a different approach. We used an EPDM membrane roof over that flat area. EPDM is one of the most reliable flat roofing materials out there - it's flexible, highly resistant to UV and weathering, and when it's installed right, it's essentially worry-free for decades. Pairing it with the standing seam metal on the main structure gives this home complete, reliable coverage across every roof plane.
What we like about jobs like this is that every decision has a reason behind it. The gauge of the steel, the seam profile, the membrane choice on the flat section - none of it is random. When you're planning a new build, those details make a real difference down the road.
