This one sits right on the water at Barkers Island - about as demanding an environment as you can put a building in. Wind off Lake Superior, constant moisture, freeze-thaw cycles all winter. Whatever goes on this facility has to hold up, year after year, without question.

That's exactly why we went with 24-gauge steel for both the roof and the siding. Heavier gauge means better dent resistance, better wind uplift performance, and a longer service life. We paired the roof with Ocean Blue steel siding to give the building a look that actually fits its surroundings. It works.

We also sourced the steel through U.S. Steel - American-made material that meets the quality standards a project like this demands. When a research facility on the shores of one of the Great Lakes needs protection, cutting corners on material isn't an option.
