Lake cabins take a beating. Between the heavy snow loads, freeze-thaw cycles, and moisture that builds up near the water, a roof up here needs to be more than just decent - it needs to be built to last. That old cedar shake roof had run its course. Worn, mossy, and well past its prime.

We replaced it with a dark charcoal standing seam metal roof, and the difference is night and day. Standing seam is one of the best choices you can make for a cabin in northern Minnesota. The panels run continuously from ridge to eave with no exposed fasteners, so there's nowhere for water or ice to work its way in. Snow sheds off cleanly instead of sitting and creating problems.

The geometry on this A-frame style cabin made for an interesting installation. Multiple roof planes meeting at sharp angles - that's where a lot of roofers struggle. Getting the seams tight and the lines clean on a roof like this takes real attention to detail. We take pride in that kind of work.

What we really love about a job like this is knowing it's going to hold up for decades. Metal roofing outlasts asphalt shingles by a wide margin, and on a property this close to the water, that durability matters. The owner gets to focus on enjoying the lake instead of worrying about what's happening above their head.

We're grateful to work on properties around Lake Vermilion and help people protect places that mean a lot to them. A cabin by the lake deserves a roof that's as tough as the landscape around it.
